STARS AND BIKES

THE 2018 REPORT

700 BIKES SHIPPED TO THE GAMBIA!

Year number 3 is in the books. We shipped approximately 700 bikes to the Serekunda Market in West Africa this year!

Not that the effort was without a hitch. Both containers were shipped only partially full. The result of poor planning, procrastination, ...and fear.

We packed last years containers to the gills and we were concerned that after so many people found out about us, we might end up with more bikes than we could handle this year. So we scaled our notification efforts back significantly.

Frankly, we can handle too few bikes. But what would we do if we couldn't get all of the bikes into the containers? We'd be scrambling. We could be in the desert for days. We could be at Burning Man long after it had ceased to be Burning Man anymore.

We couldn't ask that of our campmates. So we were conservative. Too conservative. Lesson learned.

BUT!

We shipped 700 dusty bikes that had few other prospects to a tiny country in West Africa where the bikes will live again, and not just as recreational wheels for (attractive) Burners, but as TRANSPORTATION! These "toys" have just been turned into tools that will get people to work and to family and friends.

We could not be more proud.

We also delivered another 50 "brand new" Huffy Cranbrooks to Yellow Bike again this year. We interacted with thousands of Burners, accepting their donations, yes, but also explaining what we are about and how they are helping make the world a better place.

Thank you once again, Black Rock City!
